http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schubert's_last_sonatas
Franz Schubert's last three piano sonatas, numbered 958, 959 and 960 in Deutsch's catalogue of Schubert's complete works, are the composer's last major compositions for the piano. They were written during the last months of Schubert's life, between the spring and autumn of 1828, but were not published until about ten years after his death, in 1838–39...
The three sonatas are cyclically interconnected by diverse structural, harmonic and melodic elements tying together all movements in each sonata,[7] as well as all three sonatas together;[8] consequently, they are often regarded as a trilogy. They also contain specific allusions and similarities to other Schubert compositions, such as his Winterreise song cycle; these connections point to turbulent emotional content in the sonatas, often understood as highly personal and autobiographical.[9] Indeed, some researchers have suggested specific psychological narratives for the sonatas, based on historical evidence concerning the composer's life.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impromptus_(Schubert)
Franz Schubert's Impromptus are a series of eight pieces for solo piano composed in 1827. They were published in two sets of four impromptus each: the first set was published in the composer's lifetime as Op. 90, and the second set was published posthumously as Op. posth. 142. They are now catalogued as D. 899 and D. 935 respectively.
Three other unnamed piano compositions (D. 946), written in May 1828, a few months before the composer's death, are alternatively indicated as Impromptus or Klavierstücke ("piano pieces").
The Impromptus are often considered companion pieces to the Six moments musicaux, and they are often recorded and published together.

Translation of Der Hirt auf dem Felsen:

When on the highest cliff I stand,
gaze down into the deep valley
and sing,
the echo from the ravines
floats upwards from the dark valley
far away.

The further my voice travels,
the clearer it returns to me
from below.
So far from me does my love dwell
that I yearn for her more ardently
over there.

With deep grief I am consumed,
my joy is at an end;
all hope on earth has left me;
I am so lonely here,
I am so lonely here.

So longingly sounded the song in the wood,
so longingly it sounded through the night,
drawing hearts heavenwards
with wondrous power.

Spring is coming,
Spring, my joy;
now I will make ready to go journeying.

-------------------------------

" When I wished to sing of love, it turned to sorrow. And when I wished to sing of sorrow, it was transformed for me into love."

Notes:

[*]: 6 Sonate a quattro (Sonatas for Strings, 1804)
This set of quartets had been arranged anonymously into traditional string quartet instrumentation and also existed in a configuration for woodwinds... As it turns out, the original parts (on which the published parts were based) were actually written for the extremely unconventional string quartet form of two violins, a cello, and a double bass.

[3] Gioachino Rossini's complete 'William Tell Overture' played by Pete Lashley on guitar:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIxIknEONkU

quoted from above the link:
[www.facebook.com/petelashleymusic
www.petelashley.com
This version of Rossini's 'William Tell Overture' is from Pete Lashley's 2010 album 'It All Comes Round'. The album is now available on ITUNES.
It was recorded at Stonegate Studios in Bentham, North Yorkshire by Sam Parkinson (www.samesevennotes.co.uk).

Four movements make up Rossini's 'William Tell Overture'. Pete Lashley plays them all on acoustic guitars,sometimes double-tracked and more occasionally triple tracked. It begins with the 'Prelude' - a slow passage originally written by Rossini for the cello. Pete detunes his guitar for the first few notes to try and capture the deeper mood created in the original composition. It's interesting to note that William Tell was a revolutionary against 14th Century Austrian oppression in states of the Swiss confederacy. This deep mood of the prelude, representing dawn over the forbidding mountains, could be seen to represent both a pastoral beauty and the oppressed atmosphere in which the Swiss were forced to live under Austrian dictatorship.

The second movement is the 'Storm'. Up to four layers of acoustic guitars are used in this section by Lashley, all of which are playing their own distinct roles to capture the drama. The gentle bird call heard as the storm abates is sublime. Lashley plucks high pitch notes to emulate Rossini's original flute.

The third movement, Ranz des Vaches (call to the dairy cows), originally featuring the English horn and flute, signifies daybreak. Pete softly picks the guitar to emulate the English horn melody and the higher fluttering flute parts that come in later on in the movement.

The fourth movement and the most well known is the 'Gallop' which Rossini heralded by trumpets and wrote for full orchestra. This segment is often used in popular media to denote galloping horses and became the lone ranger theme music. Lashley uses acoustic guitars again to pick out the melody and high paced rhythm. Pete brings in the cowbell and tambourine to sustain the momentum as the music gallops towards its rousing conclusion.

Perhaps the political connotations of the William Tell overture are hardly surprising given that Rossini was born in Pesaro on the Adriatic coast of Italy in 1792 at a time when revolution was breaking out in nearby France. This revolutionary feeling, a questioning of the old order across Europe, was to at least temporarily rock France and parts of Europe to its core. Rossini's father was sympathetic to the French Revolution and welcomed Napoleon Bonaparte's troops when they arrived in northern Italy. When Austria restored the old regime in 1796, Rossini's father was sent to prison and his mother took him to Bologna where she made a living as a leading singer at various theatres of the Romagna region.
During Rossini's Paris years between 1824 and 1829 he created Guillaume Tell (William Tell). The production in 1829 brought his career as a writer of opera to a close. By this time he had already composed thirty-eight operas. Rossini died in 1868.

The overture is one of the most famous and frequently recorded works in the classical repertoire although the opera itself is rarely heard uncut today as the original score runs for more than four hours!]

An aerial view of a flooded temple in Ayutthaya province October 15, 2011/Stringer

Ăn cho to lớn hỡi ông ơi

http://tudien.daitangkinhvietnam.org/index.php?title=Di-l%E1%BA%B7c

A: Có nghĩa là Vô, Không

Bốn bể vẫn chưa yên sóng gió;
Xuân này em chị vẫn tha hương,
Vẫn ăn cái Tết ngoài thiên hạ,
Son sắt say hoài rượu bốn phương.

Em đi non nước xa khơi quá!
Mỗi độ xuân về bao nhớ thương;
Mỗi độ xuân về em lại thấy,
Buồn như tên lính ở biên cương.

Thời chưa gặp đỏ, nằm xuông mãi;
Xuông cả ân tình rượu cũng xuông.
Trước mặt bút nghiên, sầu tịch mịch,
Quanh mình chăn chiếu rộn tang thương.

Một thân quán trọ sầu phong tỏa.
Đốt ngọn đèn lên, bóng rợn tường.
Đêm ba mươi tết quê người cũng,
Tiếng pháo giao thừa dậy tứ phương.

Chị ạ, em không người nước Sở
Nhớ nhà đâu mượn địch Trương Lương.
Đất khách tình dâng hòa mắt lệ,
Ôi nhà! Ôi chị! Ôi quê hương!

Từ em lưu lạc ngoài muôn dặm,
Một đoạn đường đi một đoạn trường.
Cửa quan chẳng mở, đầu Viên bạc;
Tri kỷ không ai, mắt Tịch cuồng.

Thôn dã từng quen mùi đạm bạc.
Thị thành thêm chán miếng cao lương.
Vụng tính bỏ rơi đi hạnh phúc.
Xảy ra đánh vỡ mất thiên đường.

Trăm ván cờ cao, trăm ván bại,
Nước người thêm thẹn tiếng mang chuông.
Trò đời cúi mặt xem thiên hạ,
Thực đáng cười thay, thực đáng thương!

Trọc phú ti toe bàn thế sự;
Đĩ già tấp tểnh nói văn chương.
Đã coi đồng bạc như non Thái,
Lại học đòi theo thói Mạnh Thường.

Lẳng lơ đi võng, đi tàn cả;
Gái chính chuyên kia đứng vệ đường.
Đất đổi hoa màu, nhà đổi chủ,
Trâu quên mục tử, ngựa quên chuồng.

Thay đen đổi trắng bao canh bạc;
Vẽ nhọ, đen râu mấy lớp tuồng.
Trói vo hồn lại ba đồng bạc,
Bán rẻ đời đi nửa đấu lương.

Chao ôi! Giả dối, ôi mai mỉa!
Sống chật phồn hoa một lũ Mường.
Chị ơi, tất cả là vô nghĩa,
Chả nhiễu điều nào phủ giá gương.

Tay trắng bạn bè đều tránh mặt;
Sa cơ thân thích cũng khinh thường.
Sông lạnh thấy đâu người gọi gió;
Trăng tà tìm mãi kẻ mài gươm.

Áo xanh bạc nửa màu sương gió,
Xót kẻ ăn nằm trong gió sương.
Đầy vơi tâm sự cùng ai tỏ,
Mộng lạnh đêm xưa, chiếu lạnh giường.

Quê nhà gối chiếc, thôi rồi kẻ
Chia nửa vầng trăng với dặm trường
Son phấn hững hờ niềm sắt đá
Sông hồ vò võ nỗi yên cương

Chị ạ, duyên em mà chẳng đẹp,
Chỉ vì không đọc chuyện Tây Sương.
Người yêu buổi ấy lên xe cưới,
Cũng khóc cho tròn ý nhớ thương.
Khấp như sử nữ vu quy nhật.
Lệ có thành sông, chuyện cũng thường.

Trò đời chẳng hẹn nhau lần gặp;
Đập nát cho rồi nửa mảnh gương.
Duyên mới đẹp lòng người sử nữ;
Đầu sông ai nhớ cuối sông Tương.

Tàn lạnh lòng em từ buổi ấy,
Vơi tình thôi hết cả tơ vương.
Chị ở quê chồng, Xuân có đẹp ?
Con đò bến cũ có thê lương ?

Nêu cao, pháo nổ, trầm thơm ngát.
Hoa bưởi, hoa cam rụng ngập vườn.
Mưa Xuân rắc bụi quanh làng mạc,
Gái lịch, trai thanh chật phố phường.

Lá lộc hồ tơ, tay ngọc hái,
Sông hồ vò võ nỗi yên cương.
Nhưng dù Tết đẹp hay Xuân đẹp,
Chắc chị chưa hề nguôi nhớ thương.

Người đi buổi ấy tàn hoa phượng.
Cõi Thục xa xôi mấy dặm trường.
Phong ba từ nổi trong đời chị,
Tóc rối xuân xanh, má nhạt hường.

Qua đò mấy độ sầu sông nước.
Dệt mộng bao lần tủi phấn hương.
Tháng hẹn chờ rơi cơn lá úa.
Đêm Tần đợi khuyết cái trăng xuông

Chỉ tổ tài cao, trời đất ghét,
Một thân oan khổ có trăm đường
Cuối thu mưa nát lòng dâu bể,
Ngày muộn, chuông đau chuyện đá vàng. (*)
